Summer Skin Care Tips
1. A water resistant sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher will help protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Sunscreens should be applied to dry skin at least 15 minutes before going outdoors and should be reapplied after swimming or perspiring. Typically, one ounce of sunscreen lotion is enough to cover exposed areas of the body properly.
2. Eat Pitta-balancing fruits, vegetables and herbs, which supply the skin with essential nutrients and come with free-radical fighting antioxidant properties while they help keep your skin cool. Carrots, lettuce, summer squash such as zucchini, celery, asparagus and leafy greens are good vegetable choices. Sweet juicy fruits such as pears, grapes, watermelon and mangoes both nourish and cleanse. Fresh ginger, cilantro, mint and basil add flavor and aromas to dishes without aggravating Pitta dosha.
3. Try a light shimmering eye shadow in beige just under your brow bone to draw attention to your eyes. Eating the antioxidant lutein (found in dark-green leafy vegetables, such as spinach and kale) can protect your skin against some of the sun’s damaging effects, say Harvard researchers. Lutein also helps lessen skin damage caused by aging, UV light, and other environmental stresses.
4. You should wash your skin with a good cleanser; oiliness is not going to reduce in summers. You have to wash your skin nicely with medicated cleansing lotions available in the market, which contain cetearyl alcohol and stearyl alcohol propylene glycol, two to three times a day. For the sweating problem, you should use a deodorant and talcum powder, which are good antiperspirants.
5. It’s so very important to ex foliate your skin. Your body sheds skin cells at an amazing rate every minute of every day. If you don’t get rid of them, they’ll just sitting on your skin making you look dull and dry. No matter how much lotion you use, you’re never going to have glowing skin if you don’t exfoliate. Grab a body scrub and hit the shower. Gently rub your exfoliator in circular movements on your entire body from the shoulders down (you’ll want a facial exfoliator for your face and neck) and rinse clean. Continue to do this 2-3 times a week for year-round beautiful skin.
