Applying eyeliner — particularly liquid liner — may be one of the biggest beauty challenges. It’s easy to go overboard and end up with eyes that look overdone, unnatural, or even smaller than when you started. Forget old notions of drawing, penciling, and smudging on eyeliner. To get bigger-looking eyes and thicker-looking lashes, it’s all about the dots.
Many women tend to shy away from liquid eyeliner because they think it is messy and difficult to control. This technique, however, does not require a perfectly steady hand…just a little patience and practice.
This method is also a safer alternative to lining the inner rims of your eyes. While this method achieves similar results to lining your inner rims, this technique lessens the risk of eye irritation and infection by staying away from the sensitive inner eye area.
Follow these four steps to achieve perfectly lined eyes:
- If desired, curl your lashes first. You may also find that curling your lashes makes this technique a little easier.
- With one hand, gently pull up your eyelid in an upward motion so that you can clearly see the inner rim of your upper lash line as well as the roots of your upper lashes.
- With your other hand, carefully dot the very tip of your liquid liner brush into the spaces between the roots of your lashes. Remember to use a very light hand and take special care not to poke yourself in the eye and to avoid adding liner to the inner rim of your eye. The goal here is to add the tiniest, finest dots of color you can manage onto any “blank” areas of skin between your lashes.
- Repeat this process all the way across your lash line and then repeat on the other eye.
The final result should be the illusion of a thicker, more well defined lash line.
